We’re already halfway through October, and you can feel that unmistakable Alberta shift... crisp mornings, golden leaves crunching under your boots, and that cozy pull toward community and giving back. It’s the season of full hearts, warm kitchens, and showing up for one another.
All across the province, Alberta non-profits are the heartbeat of that kindness. They’re making sure no neighbour goes hungry, helping families find their footing, and keeping Alberta’s creativity and culture alive and thriving. As the days get shorter and we inch closer to winter, these organizations remind us just how much good happens when we all pitch in.
So today, we’re shining a little light on a few that inspire us:
Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area
We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the amazing team at Helping Hands this year, and they’re exactly what their name promises, people helping people.
With a small but mighty staff and an incredible crew of volunteers, Helping Hands connects neighbours who want to give with those who could use a little extra support. From rides to appointments and outdoor seasonal help to emergency meals and their free rescued food program, they’re making life in Cochrane a little safer, kinder, and more connected every day.
It Takes a Village Okotoks
It Takes a Village is built on one simple truth, when families are supported, communities thrive. Based in Okotoks and serving the wider Foothills region, this incredible non-profit helps families facing hardships by providing free essential baby supplies during a child’s first year of life.
What started with a few local moms who saw both a need and a way to meet it has grown into a trusted network of kindness, powered by community donations, volunteers, and one very dedicated team. Every lovingly packed baby box is a reminder that in Alberta, no family should have to face tough times alone.
iHuman Youth Society
In the heart of Edmonton, iHuman Youth Society is using creativity to change lives. They work with vulnerable youth, providing a safe space to express themselves through art, music, fashion, and storytelling, while also offering access to social supports, mentorship, and community connection.
Creativity meets compassion at iHuman, and that’s something we at Bellwood Creative believe everyone should get behind. When young people are reminded that their voices and stories matter, the whole community becomes stronger for it.
Sagitawa Friendship Society
Located in Peace River, the Sagitawa Friendship Society is a hub of connection, culture, and community. Rooted in Indigenous teachings and open to everyone, Sagitawa offers family and youth programs, cultural workshops, and support services that bring people together and strengthen relationships across generations.
The society's focus on learning, respect, and belonging is a powerful reminder of what makes Alberta's communities so special.
Pincher Creek Women's Emergency Shelter Association
In southern Alberta, the Pincher Creek Women’s Emergency Shelter is providing safety, support, and hope to women and children facing domestic violence. Their team offers emergency housing, outreach programs, and compassionate care when it’s needed most.
It’s vital, heart-driven work that strengthens not just families, but the entire community.
Drumheller Community Learning Society
In the heart of the Badlands, the Drumheller Community Learning Society is helping people build confidence, skills, and connection through lifelong learning. From adult and family literacy to digital skills and community programs, they’re opening doors to opportunity for people of all ages.
The way the society empowers people through learning reminds us why we love sharing stories that celebrate growth and community at Bellwood Creative.
Central Alberta Humane Society
As big-time animal lovers and proud rescue owners ourselves, we know firsthand the value organizations like the Central Alberta Humane Society bring to their communities. Based in Red Deer, they’re giving animals a second chance at life. This shelter rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes pets from across the region, providing love, care, and medical attention until they find their forever families.
With the help of volunteers, donors, and a community that truly cares, they’re proving that compassion can change countless lives, furry ones included.
As we move through October and into the season of giving, we’re reminded how much heart lives in Alberta. From Okotoks to Peace River, these organizations show what’s possible when people care deeply about their neighbours and communities. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every bit of support helps keep their important work going.
At Bellwood Creative, we’re grateful to share their stories and to live in a province filled with kindness, creativity, and connection.
